A Culture-Centered Approach
Voices | Winter 2012

At Pacific Oaks, our culture-centered educational approach honors what makes each of us unique and teaches us to embrace our diversity to create a community of understanding and respect. But how does this play out in the classroom?

We asked four College and Children’s School faculty from different disciplines—each with experience teaching in different educational settings—for their thoughts. The dialogue included Cheryl Greer-Jarman, core faculty in the School of Human Development; Connie Destito, core faculty and program director of the Marital and Family Therapy program; Jayanti Tambe, master teacher at Pacific Oaks Children’s School and Pacific Oaks College alumna; and Dr. Kalani Beyer, dean of the School of Education and School of Human Development and Family and Marital Studies.
