Aki Ohseki is originally from New York and earned her doctorate in Early Childhood Education from Columbia University. Most of her 11 years of teaching in early childhood classrooms was spent in a progressive public school in the Lower East Side of New York City. Aki joined the core faculty in the Teacher Education Program in the summer of 2004.

Presented Lunchtime Talk: Creating an Unofficial Curriculum, which focused on how young children in an urban progressive public school construct a curriculum through engaging in spontaneous conversation at lunchtime. Spring 2004 AERA Annual Meeting, San Diego, CA
