Teacher Education Pacific Oaks student

The Teacher Education/Credential Programs at Pacific Oaks are designed to prepare our students as public or non-public school teachers.  Our programs are designed to respond effectively to the diverse cultural and linguistic perspectives and needs of our increasingly heterogeneous population.  Pacific Oaks offers many unique features through their Teacher Education program such as, small class size, which offers opportunities for interactive class discussion and personalization; strong faculty advisor support to students throughout their program and students may begin their program in the Fall, Spring or Summer semester.

Programs include:

The California Preliminary Multiple Subject English Learner Teaching Credential (MSEL) offered at Pacific Oaks is the first level of a two-level credential. Candidates complete the second level through an Induction program in their district of employment. The Preliminary credential qualifies candidates to teach K-12 multiple subjects in self-contained classrooms.

Pacific Oaks also offers the Preliminary Level I and Professional Level II Education Specialist Credential (ESC) which qualifies candidates to teach students ages 5-22 with mild to moderate disabilities. Students may only enroll in the Level II Education Specialist Credential when they are employed with a Level I Credential.

A student may combine a Teaching Credential with the B.A. or M.A. degree in Human Development or as a post-B.A. student enrolled only in the credential program.  You may also apply for admission to the combined BA/Teaching Credential program through the ABLE option.  Passing the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is an entrance requirement for both the MSEL and ESC programs.
