What is Directed Teaching?
Directed Teaching is the culmination of the educational foundations, methodology, and field experience components of the Teacher Education Program. Directed Teaching is a cooperative effort between the College, district, and schools. All students are required to complete one fifteen week placement. The site placement for fieldwork will be selected by the program according to State and department requirements. The placement includes a two week solo or co-teaching period. For further information, please contact your advisor or see Elena Fernandez.
When is Directed Teaching Offered?
Directed Teaching is offered in the fall and spring.
How To Apply for Directed Teaching
An application is required for Directed Teaching placement. Applications are available in the Teacher Education office or on the bulletin board next to the Teacher Education office. Applications must be received by the deadline published in the course catalog. Please note that you must have a certificate of clearance on file before being placed and you must have all your pre-requisites satisfied.
Placement of Student Teachers
Elena Fernandez is responsible for placing all student teachers. Our goal is to place student teachers with our anchor schools. Pacific Oaks has contracts with over 20 school districts.
Supervision
Student teachers are assigned a College field supervisor. The role of the field supervisor combines support for student learning with evaluation of teaching performance. The field supervisor will visit the student teacher throughout the semester to ensure a successful teaching and learning experience.
