GOALS OF THE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

  • To prepare students to be responsive human service providers through
    better
    self-understanding

  • To help students understand theory and its role in practice

  • To facilitate students in becoming critical thinkers

  • To support students as they recognize and resist oppressive behaviors of institutions and others

  • To aid students’ understanding of the role and purpose of research and how to use research as social action

  • To facilitate students’ finding and articulating their voices

  • To help students understand the implications of the Pacific Oaks mission through personal/professional practice

  • To utilize appropriate pedagogical approaches that facilitate all the above
