B.A. Specialization: Early Childhood Education (ECE)

The Human Development B.A. specialization in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is designed for students who would like to increase their understanding of education in a developmental framework. Students may also choose to subspecialize in Play, Language, and Literacy.

In order to be eligible for admission to the ECE specialization, a student must have previous experience in at least four developmental levels (either documented or met through a previous practicum) and/or have a plan to meet these requirements during the degree.

At least two developmental experience levels must be met prior to admission to the specialization by the end of the first year of coursework (either through a Pacific Oaks practicum or by documented work experience).

At least one fieldwork experience must be completed and documented during the student's degree program regardless of prior experience. See Experience below.

  • Infants/Toddlers (0-2 years)
  • Two Year Olds
  • 3 - 4 Year Olds
  • 4 - 5 Year Olds
  • 6 - 8 Year Olds
  • Working with Parents of Young Children

Early Childhood Education (ECE) Sub-Specialization: Play, Language and Literacy
This course of study is designed for students who are specializing in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and are teachers of children 0-8. This course of study provides an opportunity to concentrate on current theory and practice regarding the development of the literacy skills in young children that are crucial for later development of reading and writing excellence. The basic requirements for this sub-specialization include:
