About Cohort Programs
Through the cohort structure, 22 committed students united with the same educational goal have the opportunity to follow a pre-arranged sequence of classes together. This cohort model of instruction provides a supportive learning environment for students that want to follow an accelerated academic program as well as participate in group work and process.
Culture-Centered Cohort Programs:
Pacific Oaks College offers innovative Masters degrees in MFCC with specialization options in Latina/o Family Studies (LFS) and African American Family Studies (AAFS) that prepare graduate students in the principles of social justice, respect for diversity, and valuing the uniqueness of each person. These programs are based on the Comadre/Compadre and Ujima pedagogical models that fuse culture with curriculum. In these programs, students can gain a clear understanding of the specific mental health needs of children and families in diverse communities, explore effective, culturally-centered ways of working with individuals and families, and take all course work in a prearranged sequence with a cohort group that follows a weekend intensive framework geared for the working professional. For more information, see:

Human Development Cohorts
Through the Human Development cohort structure, students are able to obtain a B.A. or M.A. with core Pacific Oaks faculty. Typical programs take approximately 2 years to complete. Designed for the working professional, classes are scheduled over weekends with one summer weeklong intensive. Specializations vary from site to site and are flexible.
The ABLE option (Admission By Life Experience) is available at all sites, and can provide a path to allow students with undergraduate college credit to maticulate into a Pacific Oaks M.A. program.
