Advancement to Candidacy

Advancement to Candidacy
Students can apply for Advancement to Candidacy after completing at least half of the course work toward the degree and by submitting an approved thesis project proposal.  The thesis proposal is written as part of the HD 684 Thesis Development class.  After the proposal is approved by the thesis committee, the student completes the Advancement to Candidacy forms and registers for three-four units of HD 699 Thesis/Masters Project.  Students must register for 0 units the following semester and 0 units their fourth and final semester (0+0+0) to maintain their active status for one year.  This provides access to committee members and facilitates library privileges.  If a student needs additional time,  she/he would register for one unit per term until the thesis is completed.

If a student files a Leave of Absence Form any time, when she/he re-registers, the sequence is resumed.  Students on Leave of Absence do not have the opportunity to work with their thesis committee during the leave nor do they have access to library services.
