Letter from the Director

Dear parents, teachers, visitors and friends,

Welcome to Pacific Oaks Children's School. Since our founding in 1945, our mission has guided our work with young children and their families. We are an institution with a rich history of high ideals, moral convictions, a commitment to social justice and faith in the goodness of others.

I invite you to learn more about our progressive pedagogy, our commitment to social justice, our belief in developmentally appropriate practices and conviction in the value of play as you browse through our web pages or join us for a tour of the Children's School.

As I stroll through our home-like campus and observe children playing under the large oak trees, I am reminded that Pacific Oaks is a special place where boys and girls still enjoy the magic of childhood. Our motto of "value the child" is more than just a slogan at Pacific Oaks. It is demonstrated in the respectful relationships between children and their teachers.

Each day I see children developing new socialization skills as they dig in the sandbox, ride tricycles along the bike bath, paint at the easel or play dress-up with a friend. Teachers at the Children's School skillfully facilitate these prosocial interactions as they teach empathy, tolerance and respect for each other.

At Pacific Oaks, we work closely with parents to create a community in which we practice social responsibility, contribute to each other's lives and work together for the greater welfare of all. Our belief in the philosophic concept of community has united our families for almost 60 years.

I am proud of the accomplishments of our graduates. They know how to make a friend and be a friend. They are curious, active and passionate learners. Most importantly, they have an exceptional ability to solve problems, resolve conflicts, stand up for a friend or take an unpopular stance for something they believe in.

Pacific Oaks is not your typical Children's School. We are a community in which teachers inspire their students rather than merely dispense information. Our families develop enduring friendships and our children become lifelong learners.

I invite you contact me, visit our Children's School and learn more about our early childhood education programs.  I am confident that you will share my enthusiasm for our unique learning community.
