This specialization is designed for students in lea­dership roles who work with adults involved in the field of early childhood. Students must choose one or more areas in which to sub-specialize.

Requirements

One of the following classes:

• HD 340/MA HD-616 Leadership in Education
• HD 401/MA HD-610 Working with Adults

 

Administration/Supervision Sub-Specialization

1. At least one of the following classes:

• HD 308/MA HD-646 Women in Administration
• HD 360/MA HD-562 Advanced Studies in Diversity
• HD 474/MA HD-625 Intervention Models in Early Childhood Education

2. Both of the following classes:

• HD 453/MA HD-656 Administration/Supervision: Observation (1-2 units)
• HD 453/MA HD-656 Administration/Supervision: Fieldwork (2-3 units)

Parent/Community Work Sub-Specialization

1. At least one of the following classes:

• HD 240/MA HD-640 Models and Methods of Family/School Collaboration
• HD 331/MA HD-641 Team Building for Early Childhood Educators and Parents
• HD 474/MA HD-625 Intervention Models in Early Childhood Education

2. And

• HD 456/MA HD-658 Parent/Community Work: Observation (1-2 units)
• HD 456/MA HD-658 Parent/Community Work: Fieldwork (2-3 units)

Fieldwork

Note: a student may register for one unit of field­work at a time, but a total of three units is required.

Prerequisites: To register for fieldwork, the student must have a job or arrange an internship/ apprenticeship, which enables her/him to take a responsible role in working with adults. Credit is based upon 45 hours per unit of field work and journal keeping. Credit for observation in each sub-specialization is based upon 45 hours per unit of observation and reading.

Most students will participate in a concurrent seminar offered online or on campus.
