About Human Development at Pacific Oaks

Professional work with both children and adults requires an understanding of human development, in theory and practice, from the beginning to the end of a life span.  Through the Human Development program, you can study a full range of stages of a lifetime, from infancy to adulthood, as well as bicultural education, the dynamics of social change, and leadership in the human services field.

Pacific Oaks stands as one of the leading institutions of life span education in the United States.  Leading exponents of Anti-Bias and Emergent Curriculum, Betty Jones and Louise Derman-Sparks have been teaching Human Development here for many years and have left their indelible mark on the institution. Currently Pacific Oaks faculty members have been developing methods of using narrative in scholarship and as a way to further the exchange of ideas and the building of community between groups.

Pacific Oaks faculty come from all kinds of institutions, from UCLA to Columbia, and sometimes from Pacific Oaks itself, but they all come with the goal of reaching out to students and helping them achieve their dreams of study. At Pacific Oaks, we will meet you where you are academically and take you further down the road of learning than you might be able to imagine.
