Books
The library offers a highly focused research collection covering the social sciences, with particular emphasis on materials which support the College's degree programs in Teacher Education, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Human Development.  Not all materials required by instructors are available in the library, though we do monitor class reading lists and include such materials in our acquisitions whenever appropriate.  Required readings which we own are placed on reserve each semester, and circulate for one week at a time.  It is now possible to place holds through our library catalog (webOPAC) for items in circulation.  Directions may be found here.

The library's membership in the Inland Empire Academic Library Consortium also entitles students at Pacific Oaks to check out materials from other institutions in the consortium.  Those who wish to do so may request a membership card from library staff at our circulation desk.

Journals
The library has subscribed to more than 80 journals related to education, counseling/psychology, and human development. Bound volumes of these journals are available for students' use in the library. These are not available for circulation, though they may be used and copied in the library.

Videos and DVDs
There are roughly 250 videos and a growing DVD collection available from the library. These are searchable in our webOPAC and are distinguished from books by VID or DVD before the call number.

Fines
Since we want our students to get maximum use out of the materials we own, it is our general policy to not charge overdue fines for items in our collection.  The exceptions to this are items on reserve for which we charge a fine of $1.00 per day when overdue.

Also, since we depend on the good will of other libraries to obtain interlibrary loan materials, we charge substantial fines when those materials are returned to us late.  Items one to three days late will have a fine of $5.00, and each day after the third will incur an additional $5.00 fine. These policies, as well as the due date of the items, are attached to each interlibrary loan item at checkout.
