Place Holds in library catalog (webOPAC)

When you find an item in Pacific Oaks Library's webOPAC that you'd like to obtain, the first thing to do is to select its title in the list of results.  This will open a small window giving you further information about the item.

In this window, you will notice two tabs, labelled Record and Copies.  The Record tab gives you citation information:  title, author, publisher, etc.  The Copies tab gives you information about the specific copy of the item: when it was added to the collection, its barcode number, and, most importantly, its Circulation Status.

If the item is on the shelf you may call the library and we will pull it for pick up at the library or to mail to you.  If the item is out on loan you will see an icon with the word Hold.  When you select this, you'll be asked to login with your username & password.  Username is your personal Lastname, Firstname all in capital letters and the password is POPATRON.  You will be asked how many days you would like the hold to stay in the system.  Select a number that is less than a semester.  Your hold may not be the first in the queue so select a number longer than a month.

Once you login, the item will be added to your shopping cart, and an animated shopping cart icon will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the main window.  If you select the cart icon, you will be shown a list of all the items for which you have placed holds during this session.  In order to actually submit these holds, you must select Process.

The system places you on the waiting list for the item.  As soon as it is checked in we are informed that "<yourname> has been waiting for this since <date of hold>."  We then check it out to you, and let you know it's ready.

NOTE :  if your login fails, contact library staff and we'll resolve the problem.
