Dr. Donald Grant, Pacific Oaks’ Associate Dean in Human Development, recently presented a webinar “The Last Straw—When Movements Shift from Talk to Action,” discussing how social media has impacted social justice movements.

Dr. Donald Grant (Associate Dean of Pacific Oaks’ School of Human Development and one of the creators of PO’s Advocacy & Social Justice program) recently discussed the history of Pacific Oaks, the Human Development degree program, and ways in which the ASJ program connects social justice and social media.

“One of the most important things about advocacy and being able to effectively advocate is being able to identify the specific populations to whom you want to direct your advocacy,” Dr. Grant says. “But also bring that group’s voice into your conversation. One of the major challenges with advocacy is that many of us are unable to lose the paternalistic framework of advocacy. We identify help in a way that demonstrates what we feel that the community needs. But what’s most important is that we hear the voice of that community.”
