Pacific Oaks College (PO) announced the Gretchen Brooke Memorial Scholarship in fall 2016, a merit scholarship awarded to eligible Northern California-based students who exemplify the values of PO. New and current students at the San Jose Campus and Northern California sites are eligible to apply now for the scholarship.
Named for a beloved member of the PO community, Gretchen Brooke served as a faculty member for over 20 years and is remembered for her impact on students, colleagues, and communities of Central Valley California. As an alumna and teacher at PO, Brooke had boundless energy and love for her students. She epitomized the values of PO. Brooke was kind, generous, accepting, and without judgment.
“With these scholarships that are dedicated to the kindness and grace with which Gretchen Brooke helped students learn, we hope to allow more students in Northern California to benefit from programs that serve communities with current skills and timeless values,” said Dr. Patricia A. Breen, Ph.D., President of Pacific Oaks College.
Alumni and friends of Pacific Oaks College are encouraged to consider making a gift to honor Gretchen Brooke’s legacy in Northern California. The scholarship will provide much needed financial assistance to students enrolled in the San Jose Campus and Northern California sites. Brooke’s life was dedicated to helping others achieve their dreams through higher education and this scholarship opportunity is emblematic of her life’s work.
Alumna Julia Harris, who earned her B.A. in Human Development in 1999, remembers Gretchen Brooke fondly. “Gretchen was my mentor. She taught me about compassion and justice. When PO started in Northern California, I remember taking classes in her living room. Gretchen was so passionate about the program and its mission. The seeds she planted took root and I pass them to all the children’s lives I touch, including my own child. Gretchen’s light lives on.”
