Introducing the 10th president of Pacific Oaks College and Children’s School

Dear members of the Pacific Oaks community,

On behalf of the Pacific Oaks Board of Trustees I am excited to share with you that during our Annual Meeting on May 1, the Board unanimously elected Dr. Patricia Breen as the 10th President of Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School, effective June 1.

Dr. Breen’s history with Pacific Oaks dates back to 2009 when she first became familiar with the institution through her role as Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at TCS Education System. Over the years her bond with the institution has grown stronger, particularly since the summer of 2013 when she joined Pacific Oaks College to help prepare for the WASC Senior Commission of Universities and Colleges (WSCUC) Special Visit in October 2013. She proved to be such a positive agent of change that in November 2013 she was appointed Provost. In this role, Dr. Breen oversaw the Academic Affairs department inclusive of each of the three schools, as well as the Admissions and Student Services departments.

Her accomplishments over the past two years include the introduction of new specializations in the Schools of Education and Cultural and Family Psychology, developing a new mission and market-driven program development process, shaping the strategic plans for the College and most recently, the Children’s School, advancing faculty governance, successfully leading the College through multiple accreditation reports and visits, and initiating the effort to define the meaning of a Pacific Oaks’ degree.

Previously, Dr. Breen has held multiple leadership roles at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, including that of Interim President of the Chicago campus, served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness at Argosy University, and held leadership positions at both DeVry Institute of Technology and National-Louis University. She is a consultant evaluator for and a member of the Substantive Change Review Committee of WSCUC, and a former evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.

Dr. Breen received her Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Development from Fielding Graduate University. She also holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Texas, and a Master’s of Business Administration from DePaul University. The Board is confident that Dr. Breen’s 30 years’ experience in higher education, strategic insight, and innovative way of thinking will help position Pacific Oaks for an even more fruitful future.

I close with sharing that during the Board’s Annual Meeting we also celebrated the many accomplishments of Dr. Ezat Parnia, whose tenure as President will conclude on May 31. Dr. Parnia joined Pacific Oaks as President in January 2012 during a time of great need for the institution. Over the years he’s worked to increase enrollment, restructure the college into three distinct schools, reestablish the institution’s good name in Pasadena and the surrounding areas, balance the budget, and unite the Pacific Oaks community. We are appreciative of his work and collaboration to ensure a successful leadership transition. For all of this and more, we sincerely thank him.
