Featured speaker Julie Olsen Edwards, co-author of National Association for the Education of Young Children’s new Anti-Bias Education for Young Children Julie Olsen Edwards and Ourselves, has been on the ECE faculty of Cabrillo College since 1971. She also served as department chair for 25 of those years.
An award-winning writer, editor, and consultant, she also has worked as an elementary school teacher and reading specialist; a children’s center director; a teacher of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers; and a family child care home provider. A recipient of many awards, she served on the national board of NAEYC and numerous committees and commissions.
All her work has been imbued with a deep commitment to building a world of justice where children and families can thrive, teachers are honored, and the joy of learning is a right available to all. Edwards earned her B.A. in American studies at San Francisco State College and her M.A. in education at University of California, Berkley.
