President Breen was recently selected to be an Honorary Committee Member for the City of Pasadena and the Office of the Young Child’s “Launch of Pasadena as an Early Learning City.”
As President of Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School, a leading institution in early childhood education, human development, and cultural & family psychology, Dr. Breen’s inclusion as an honorary committee member is an important and relevant selection. Other honorary members include elected officials and community leaders.
In March 2015, the City Council of Pasadena approved a Resolution to be one of the first cities in the United States to develop a community wide strategy to be an Early Learning City. An Early Learning City is a city where our youngest children have an equal opportunity and footing to embrace all possibilities the future has to offer. The resolution was passed as a part of a national movement to become an Early Learning Nation by 2025.
On September 23, 2017, Pasadena will commemorate the start of this movement by hosting a Family and Community Day at Brookside Park, near the Rose Bowl and next to Kidspace Museum. During this event, families and community members will participate in activities that foster children’s development and learning from birth to age 5, and become familiar with community resources available on child development, brain science, and parenting. The day is meant to be a celebration and dedication of our vibrant community coming together to support our youngest population. Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School will be proud exhibitors and participants at the launch event. Please come celebrate with us!
