Pacific Oaks College has created a new School of Global Leadership and Management to build on the existing business and management programs, incorporating global that provide an enhanced insight into the modern business landscape for Pacific Oaks students. The school embodies Pacific Oaks’ core values of diversity, inclusion, respect, and social justice through an experiential learning philosophy that prepares students to become effective leaders in a rapidly changing and interconnected world.
As a part of this new school, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program now requires students to complete a digital internship with a company in another country, as well as to complete a one-week, in-person study abroad trip. The Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership & Management program now offers the digital internship as well, but it is not required for graduation.
According to Ja Ne’t Rommero, Psy.D., administrative faculty in the Department of Academic Affairs, the increased global focus enhances the high-quality education that Pacific Oaks’ business and management students already receive. “Experience enriched by international perspectives helps prepare our students to become leaders who are sensitive to diverse local and global communities,” she says.
Dr. Rommero confirms that students are experiencing positive outcomes from their global experiences. “The internships are outstanding,” she says. “The students are virtually going to places that include Peru, Columbia, South Africa, the Ivory Coast, and Switzerland.”
Students have also been able to work with a variety of organizations through internships, enabling them to work for positive change in fields they are passionate about. Dr. Rommero says that students have been able to consult with global companies on hiring, conducting and streamlining interviews, addressing employee self-care, and improving internal communication, fundraising, project management, and more. “Each person is working on something that not only complements their studies and goals in the U.S. but can facilitate the change in the global organizations that they’re working with,” Dr. Rommero says.
In the fall 2023 semester, students currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration will be traveling abroad in person to study in Berlin. “Students will get to visit federal ministries, museums, businesses, and schools, as well as attend lectures,” Dr. Rommero says.
“Our top priority is to ensure they get to see all the amazing things that Berlin has to offer and leave with an in-depth understanding of business in Berlin.”
