The Broady Foundation and Pacific Oaks College are Looking for Strong Role Models to Encourage the Next Generation

Despite over 75% of boys in California's public schools belonging to historically underrepresented groups, only 9% of their male teachers share those same demographics. Pacific Oaks is committed to diversity in its student body, and together with the Broady Foundation, are working to help students of color reach their full potential by increasing the number of teachers who can be their role models.

The Broady Foundation's $40,000 grant will be divided into four $10,000 grants for four recipients towards the cost of an M.A. in Education, including the preparation for either the Elementary Education or Special Education teaching credential. Students may take classes online or at Pacific Oaks College campus in Pasadena.


Eligibility Requirements

  • Conferral of B.A. or B.S. degree by August 29, 2022
  • Successful completion of application and acceptance for admissions to Pacific Oaks' M.A. Education program, start date of Spring 2022, no later than August 29, 2022
  • Completion of the Broady Scholarship essay, no later than September 5, 2022
  • Preference given to applicants raised or currently living in a disadvantaged community as well as those who identify as men of color

About the Earl and Anna Broady Foundation:

Earl C. Broady, Sr. was a pioneering black man who started out as a janitor and later became a judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court. During Broady's career, he served as a police officer and lieutenant for the Los Angeles Police Department throughout the 1930's and 1940's and also as a district attorney for the City of Los Angeles. In 1965, Broady was appointed to the Superior Court bench by then Governor Edmund G. Brown, Sr. When Broady's wife died in 2016, their trust established The Earl and Anna Broady Foundation.
