Ten years ago, Janie Ho put school on hold and started working full time to care for her two young daughters. But after her mother’s sudden passing in 2007, Janie was compelled to change the direction of her life.
“I couldn’t spend another minute in an unfulfilling job,” Janie says. She joined the staff at a local children’s center, and after seven years and two promotions, she knew it was time to finish her degree. Pacific Oaks became her second chance.
“Everybody I interacted with on campus was so kind, supportive, and inspiring,” she says. “The Pacific Oaks staff guided me through every step of the process to re-enroll in school, and every day my professors and classmates encourage me to believe that I can do this—I can finish.”
Pacific Oaks can change individual lives and whole families.
“In one assignment, I had to write about a personal trauma,” Janie says. “I wrote about how my dad abandoned our family when I was eight years old. We were left with nothing. I’d never told my daughters about that. When my girl read my essay, she started crying, hugged me, and said she understood me better. That was the best gift I could have gotten from Pacific Oaks.”
With her degree, Janie hopes to become the director at her children’s center and increase teacher training opportunities, as well as programs for more family participation. Join motivated students like Janie and apply now to Pacific Oaks College!
