As core faculty of the School of Education, Yolanda is responsible for the development of program specializations, syllabi development, revision, the California State Teacher Initiative Conference, and is a member of the Pacific Oaks College Development and Evaluation Committee, Academic Senate and Curriculum Review committee. Lastly, she is dedicated to creating a positive, appropriate learning environment, understanding and education strategies that embrace diversity and social justice.
Yolanda Carlos served as an instructor for Victor Valley Union High School District for 30 years, was the Careers & Technology Department Chair, taught Developmental Psychology a UC college credit approved course, Careers with Children, and directed an onsite laboratory preschool for children of faculty staff and the Victor Valley community, and WASC Department Chair.
Leadership roles included: Adviser of the FHA-HERO student Leadership Organization and 2010 Region 10 Coordinator for the FHA-HERO Organization - which she received an Outstanding Award as Region 10 Coordinator 2010. Two of her officers were elected to the state level of leadership.
Ms. Carlos has been an instructor of Victor Valley Union High School District for 30 years. She has served in a variety of leadership roles both at Victor Valley High School District and in the community.
Ms. Carlos has served as board member/ Vice President since 2007, of a community-based organization, "A Better Way," an organization that helps families who have experienced domestic violence with education and training for a better quality life.
She has served as a governing member for the California Association for the Education of Young Children (AAEYC) since 2005 and served as President 2010-2014.
Additionally, she is a Coordinator for High Desert Church Preschool ministries since 2007, which serves over 1,200 children and their families each weekend.
As you can see, Ms. Carlos is passionate and dedicated to serve in a variety of settings with children, families and the community. She believes it is important to be open to a variety of cultural perspectives and that as we make decisions that are based on research; we also need to make sure that the diversity of the community is represented.
Lastly, many of her students are currently working in the field of teaching at Head Start, Victor Elementary School District, Adelanto School District and Victor Valley Union High School District. Recently, a current Pacific Oaks College graduate was hired as an executive director of a prestigious school in the Pasadena area and gives all credit to Pacific Oaks College for her expertise!
