Dr. Charles Opong, Ph.D., (he/him/his)Â is a professor and thesis chairperson, lecturing on Human Development Education at Pacific Oaks College. He is a social scientist also focused on areas of film/filmmaking, critical media literacy, media analysis, social sciences of human behavior and research methods, critical theory, communications, human development, economics, and global leadership.
As a filmmaker and screenwriter, Dr. Opong facilitates research frameworks as they lend themselves to the worldview of entertainment components within Hollywood and independent film to conceptual and theoretical paradigms of race, class, policy, and power. Dr. Opong's other research aspects include fatherhood, Black masculinity Endarkened feministic epistemologies/womanism, and critical media literacies. He is a native of Los Angeles from the West Adams District, born to Ghanaian parents from the Accra and Ashanti Regions of Ghana in West Africa. Dr. Opong holds a B.A. in Communications from California State University Dominguez Hills, an M.A. in Educational Psychology from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education & Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Social Science from Pepperdine.
