Cymone Damon Sams is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and co-owns a group private practice in Pasadena, CA. She has worked in residential treatment, intensive outpatient, community mental health, and in group private practice prior to opening her own business. Some of the populations that Cymone has worked with include trauma, substance misuse, psychotic and dissociative disorders within the realm of working with children, families, and couples. Her current interests include psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, couples therapy, personality disorders, and cultural identity concerns, among others. She received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Prairie View A&M University in Texas and a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in African American Families from Pacific Oaks College. Currently, Cymone is working towards a Doctoral degree in Couple and Family Therapy from Alliant International University. Her dissertation is a qualitative exploration on Black polycules who are in polyamorous relationships examining how they attach within their relationships, build community, and the intersection of their multiple identities. Cymone's theoretical orientation includes a modern approach utilizing a psychoanalytic perspective branching off into attachment theory, Bowenian, and a contextual family therapy lens.
