Pacific Oaks College will hold its 2017 Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 300 E Green Street in Pasadena, CA 91101. Ceremony participants must check in starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Pasadena Convention Center Ballroom next to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Refreshments for graduates will be available.
Auditorium seating will open at 10:00 a.m., and all guests must wait outside until the auditorium doors open. Every guest must have a ticket to be admitted into the auditorium.
The Pacific Oaks College Commencement Ceremony is a special event for all involved. Please show respect for everyone who has come to share the experience. Individuals who engage in inappropriate or disruptive behavior will be removed from the event.
As a courtesy to those around you and to our graduating students, please turn off cellular phones and all other electronic equipment during the ceremony. Balloons, sound makers and confetti will not be allowed in the auditorium.
Due to fire code regulations, stroller/carriages are not allowed in the auditorium.

Tickets are required for guest admission. Please check with your graduate for ticket availability. A maximum of 6 tickets will be issued to each graduate.

Guests will not be allowed in the lobby of the Civic Auditorium during the processional of graduates, faculty and platform party. Please arrive and be seated prior to 11:00 a.m., the doors will remain closed until the end of processional. Only seating in the balcony will remain when the doors reopen. Please note that the balcony is not handicap accessible.

At the Marriott Courtyard Los Angeles Pasadena/Old Town, friends and families of graduates can book a special hotel rate of $149 per night. This rate is available for guests staying at the hotel from May 5 – 7, 2017. You must book by April 4, 2017 to receive this rate. *The auditorium lobby doors will close at 10:59 a.m. and will remain close until the platform party and graduates have marched into the auditorium and have taken their seats.
All graduates must have completed the online Commencement RSVP Form by the deadline of Friday, March 24, 2017 in order to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Students who complete all program requirements at the end of Summer 2016*, Fall 2016, Spring 2017 semesters are eligible to participate if they submit all the required forms below.
*If you participated in Commencement previously, you may not participate again for the same degree or program.

Graduate Sponsor Recognition
Pacific Oaks College allows graduates to recognize individuals who may be family, faculty, staff, or friends to thank them for their support during their academic journey. Graduates may submit their sponsor recognition on the RSVP form. Sponsor recognition will appear in the Commencement program
Academic Regalia (Cap & Gown)
Graduates participating in the commencement ceremony must wear commencement regalia.
Jostens is the only company authorized by Pacific Oaks College to provide official Pacific Oaks graduation cap and gown. Order your cap and gown by the deadline to ensure delivery before commencement date and to avoid late order fee.
To avoid paying late shipping fees, please order your Regalia no later than Friday, March 24, 2017.
Graduates may wish to send printed announcements to friends and family to announce their achievement. Personalized Pacific Oaks announcements are available for purchase from Jostens. Please note that these announcements will not serve as entry to the commencement ceremony, a ticket will need to be provided for each guest in attendance as seats are limited.
Each graduate will receive a maximum of 6 guest tickets. Tickets are required for guest admission and will be collected at the door. Commencement distribution date TBD.
Additional Tickets: Because of limited seating in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and City of Pasadena fire regulations, tickets are strictly controlled. As we get a better understanding of how many students will participate, we will know the availability of extra tickets. Please note — there is no guarantee extra tickets will be available. Please avoid embarrassment and do not invite more guests than you have tickets for, because they will not gain entry! It is our goal to fill every seat in the Auditorium with your guests, but we are not allowed to have guests standing in the venue.
Diplomas will not be distributed at the ceremony. Commencement participants will receive diploma covers and a note of congratulation. Graduates will receive their diploma after final grades have been submitted and an audit of their record is conducted to confirm all degree and program requirements have been met. Graduates will be notified of their degree conferral through their Pacific Oaks College email account. Diplomas are mailed out approximately six to eight weeks after the date of conferral of the degree.
Commencement Photography Order
The official commencement photographer is Paul Switzer Photography. Photos will be taken of graduates when they receive their diploma cover. For questions, please call (818) 545-7172.

Photography payments (check or credit card) are made to Paul Switzer Photography and are due on the day of the commencement ceremony. Pacific Oaks College is not responsible for ordering photos.

Participation in Commencement
A formal college commencement ceremony is held annually in the Spring semester. To participate in the commencement ceremony, students must have submitted a Commencement RSVP form by March 24, 2017. Students may only participate in commencement once per degree earned. Students may also opt out and choose to participate at a subsequent commencement.
The following students are eligible to participate in the annual Spring commencement ceremony:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students who met all their degree requirements at the end of the prior Summer or Fall semester/session;
- Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students who are candidates to complete their degree requirements by the end of the Spring semester/session. The student’s official program degree audit evaluation must indicate the student is on target to satisfactorily complete all degree requirements by the end of the Spring semester/session of that year, as verified by the Registrar’s Office and so indicated by the expected graduation date on the student’s record;
- Students placed on Financial Aid & Academic Warning or Probation statuses must meet with their Faculty Advisor to be cleared to participate in commencement.
Summer 2017 Graduates “Walk Short” Requirements
Requirements for participation in Commencement are not subject to appeal. Students completing degree requirements at the end of the following Summer semester/session may participate if they meet the following criteria:

For Summer 2017 Commencement, Candidates must have submitted the “Walk Short” Request Form for Summer 2017 Graduates and the Petition for Degree Completion by Friday, March 24, 2017. (More Degree Conferral information can be found here)
School of Education
- Student has 9 or less units left to complete in the Summer semester/session.
- Portfolio must be current.
School of Human Development
- Student has 6 or less units left to complete in the Summer semester/session.
- Thesis OR Applied Research Project must be completed by the end of Spring 2017 (Master of Arts students ONLY).
School of Cultural and Family Therapy
- Student has 9 or less units left to complete in the Summer semester/session.
Note: All undergraduate credits to fulfill degree requirements include credits from Pacific Oaks College and transfer courses.
