Sample Courses

Developmental Themes and Transformation Across the Lifespan

This online course provides an in-depth analysis and synthesis of developmental themes that begin in early childhood, transform and recur in later stages of the life cycle. It includes a critical reflection on developmental theories, exploring the ways that complex factors influence a person’s engagement with issues and challenges over their lifetime. Student reflections on self and others within the contexts of their lives are used to enhance and deepen the learning process. This class meets the research competency.

Authentic Assessment

This online course will define and explore creative models and frameworks of assessment/evaluation for programs, schools and organizations, from a life span perspective. Particular focus areas will include continuums of traditional/non-traditional, standardized/ developmental, and quantitative/qualitative data collection for program design, evaluation and structural planning. Emphasis will be placed on addressing subjectivity, ethics, biases and cultural models of deviance. Outside observation hours are required.

Requirements

All M.A. and Credential programs require fieldwork or field experience appropriate to the program emphasis. Fieldwork ranges from classroom observations to completion of fieldwork- related projects at the students’ place of employment.
