Dr. Montoya Whitfield, has been in the field of Psychology & Behavioral Health for over 12 years. Her knowledge and expertise consists of working with and in various socio-economic and culturally diverse communities, private practice settings and working with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders. Montoya's specialty populations are Community Mental Health, Children, Adolescents and Families, disorders; Anxiety, Autism, Eating Disorders, Depression, Substance Abuse, and Trauma. Ms. Whitfield currently works with adolescent teens and adults with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, in a private practice setting, and she is a clinical trainer at an Intensive Out Patient (IOP) facility.
Ms. Whitfield holds her doctorate degree in Applied Clinical Psychology with a specialization in child play therapy and adolescent psychotherapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Ms. Whitfield is a Certified Breakthrough Parenting Instructor and she is a published children's book author. Ms. Whitfield plans to further develop her dissertation project and pilot it with local community-based child welfare and family planning agencies in hopes of decreasing the number of child abuse cases in Los Angeles County and repeat child abuse offenders by educating parents on ways to effectively communicate, connect and guide their children during the first five years of life.
