A resident of Running Springs in San Bernardino, Rebecca Maloof graduated from Pacific Oaks College with a B.A. in Human Development and a specialization in social change.
“My time at Pacific Oaks College was both dynamic and insightful,” Maloof says. “My entire life I have always wanted to know and understand not only people like myself but those who have experienced a life different from mine. Fully embracing the multi-cultural aspects of my degree program at Pacific Oaks allowed me this opportunity—the chance to experience many different perspectives.”
Maloof was recently recognized in The Mountain News for her unique “wearable works of art”, which she creates from different items that she has gathered during her ventures throughout the Southwestern U.S.
Within the story, Maloof states that she was “born and raised in the vast outdoors of Oregon ranching country” and has “always felt connected to the Earth and her creatures.”
Her artwork includes Chakra bracelets made from semi-precious stones, a sea glass necklace with a sterling clasp, and bracelets of blown glass beads.
“As an artist, I continue my interest in other cultures and the materials used in their art,” she says. “From Native American tribal beads to the sea glass of Africa, I treasure working and designing with these materials.”
Maloof’s artwork will be displayed in the Mountain Arts Network Gallery on May 18, 2019. She will also be participating in the Lake Arrowhead Art Festival on June 29, 2019.
