The School of Education has been granted seven years of accreditation without stipulation. This milestone represents a stamp of approval for the school and its faculty and administrators. They completed a site visit at the end of January 2022, as part of the accreditation cycle for Pacific Oaks College’s Teacher Credentialing programs. In the course of their visit, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing conducted an in-depth review of all institutional and programmatic information and completed interviews with administrators, faculty, staff, candidates, graduates, and local school partners.
A unanimous vote of confidence
CTC site visit team found all preconditions, program standards, and common standards met, and unanimously recommended a continued seven-year accreditation cycle. On March 17, 2022, the Committee of Accreditation for CTC voted to approve the site visit team’s recommendation to determine the official accreditation status.
Since the founding of Pacific Oaks College almost 80 years ago, training competent and compassionate teachers for the classroom has been at the core of its mission. Approval from the CTC represents an affirmation of that mission. “Seven years with no stipulations really says we have an extraordinary teacher program,” says Jerell B. Hill, Ed.D., dean of the School of Education at Pacific Oaks. “It speaks volumes to our mission, vision, and core values.”
Education is the heart of the Pacific Oaks mission
Pacific Oaks College President Dr. Jack Paduntin agrees. “Pacific Oaks College has produced a large number of teachers to Pasadena and California,” he says, “and we always stress the importance of understanding and addressing the needs of the community.”
The granting of accreditation establishes a foundation for the faculty and staff of Pacific Oaks as they strive over the next seven years to exceed the benchmarks laid down for them. “We understand that accreditation is the initial step in unlocking the promise, hope, and possibilities, that education brings to impact communities,” Dr. Hill says.
